NEW MARKET, Tenn. – On Saturday, July 25, John W. Coker will auction 500 lots of oil paintings, watercolors, engravings and prints as well as 400+ antique and vintage glass shades and lamps in an online-only auction conducted through LiveAuctioneers.
The auction contents come from two separate Tennessee estates, and every item, without exception, will be offered absolute and without reserve.
The artworks in the sale were collected over a period of many years by a career military couple who traveled extensively.
“Wherever they happened to be stationed, either in the United States or abroad, they bought art,” said auctioneer John Coker. “They were very open to different artistic styles and cultural influences and bought every imaginable genre, medium and period. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an art collection quite this diverse. In terms of variety, we have it all,” said Coker.
Estimates on the artworks have been kept very reasonable, Coker said. Most of the paintings are expected to sell for less than $1,000.
The multitude of glass shades was previously part of a lamp store’s inventory and has come to John Coker’s auction via the estate of Jack Mills, who owned a lighting shop in Knoxville, Tennessee. Several lamps, and lamp parts that would be useful in restoring vintage lighting devices, are also included in the auction.
