AMESBURY, Mass. – Grace and Jacques “Jack” Weil, located in historic Marblehead, Massachusetts, were very successful old fashioned antique dealers in Greater Boston back in the mid-century. Their Marblehead shop was the go-to-place on the North Shore to find choice Americana, from folk art and textiles to paintings and formal furnishings. When they closed their landmark store in the 1970s, all their own personal collection and all the extras stored throughout their home remained untouched until now. Nearly a half century later, John McInnis Auctioneers will sell these treasures on June 12 starting at 10 am Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

“It was my pleasure to have the opportunity to meet Grace prior to her death,” said John McInnis. “I received a call from Bobby Cianfrocca of Salt Marsh Antiques during a hectic auction to come and meet Grace. She was one of the kindest, sweetest ladies, and loved life surrounded by beautiful things in her home. Her dying wish was to know all of her things were on a way to a new home. It was so bittersweet, she passed away at age 90 in her home just days after we finished.”

Among the diverse and unique highlights are two hand-colored George Washington mourning engravings published in Philadelphia in 1800 shortly after his death on December 14, 1799; an interesting 1766 William Pitt No Stamp Button; and a Marblehead Pottery terracotta piece displaying 16 sample glaze swatches with corresponding swatch numbers.

The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stocking sheet music for piano dates from the year they were founded as they fielded the first-known openly professional baseball team. Collectors of American political history will not want to miss a wide range of items including a Henry Clay 1845 gilt brass campaign button and many more items related to significant historical figures.
