MONROVIA, Calif. – On the heels of their Oct. 25 California and American Fine Art Auction, Moran’s will switch gears to offer Asian objects from the Hancock Park estate of Andrew F. Chandler alongside Continental objects and paintings, silver and porcelain from other private Southern California estates and collections at their Nov. 15 decorative art auction. Highlights from the November catalog include Buddhist gilt-bronze figures, porcelain by Amphora and Sevres and a curated selection of European works of art spanning from the 19th century to the contemporary. One of the catalog’s centerpieces is a Chinese export automaton clock (above) from a private Los Angeles collection. Featuring an ornate mother-of-pearl-inlaid case and three diminutive automaton figures, the clock is to expected to sell for $10,000 to $15,000.

The auction will feature an array of Continental porcelain, including Sevres items from the Chandler estate and an extensive Royal Crown Derby “Old Imari” china service for 12. Featuring standard place settings along with a number of serving pieces, the set has been assigned a conservative $2,000 to $3,000 estimate. In addition to a larger group of Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica porcelain which is offered for $4,000 to $6,000, a rarely seen Flora Danica tea service for two will be brought to the block with a $1,500 to $2,500 estimate. A stunning Art Nouveau RStK Amphora portrait vase (below) adorned with a moth and thistle motif will be offered with a $3,000 to $5,000 estimate.

Japanese and Chinese works of art from Chandler estate are expected to perform well again, as pieces from the estate offered in Moran’s July 30 auction exceeded expectations across the board. A Sino-Tibetan gilt-bronze figure of the bodhisattva Chenrezig dating to the 19th century is also sure to turn heads (est. $8,000 to $10,000).

Turning to Japanese offerings, an Edo period six-panel folding byōbu floor screen (below) dating to the 18th century or earlier is adorned with a sprawling view of Mount Fuji, fishermen and huts nestled against the expanse of a pine forest. the screen is expected to bring $3,000 to $5,000.
