John Moran’s Valentine’s Day sale replete with costume jewelry, luxury accessories
LOS ANGELES — This Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14, beginning at noon Pacific time, John Moran Auctioneers will present its Costume Jewelry & Luxury Accessories Online auction. This colorful sale will highlight the costume jewelry of the Dumont collection from West Hollywood. There will be vintage pieces from designers ranging from Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Iradj Moini, Trifari, Joseff of Hollywood and Miriam Haskell. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Brooches remain perennially popular. Multiple examples of this simple yet bold statement piece can be found in the February 14 auction, including some from Iradj Moini. One is a pomegranate brooch comprising of an 18K gold-plated ruby pomegranate suspended from a peridot, citrine and turquoise branch with an estimate of $500-$700.
The other, a floral brooch set with lemon quartz, citrines, rubies, pink tourmaline and multicolored Czech crystals in an 18K gold-plated brass mounting has an estimate of $500-$700. This piece also showcases florals in 3D form, a motif that is trending right now.
Certain to turn heads is a Steven Vaubel Smokey Woods necklace and bracelet set, comprised of a vermeil Smokey Woods rectangular links necklace and a matching vermeil triple band bangle bracelet. Its estimate is $400-$600.
If you gravitate toward bright colors, consider the Amy Kahn Russell amethyst statement necklace. This large necklace, estimated at $300-$500, is set with raw amethyst geode stones bezel-mounted to sterling silver, along with cut and tumbled amethyst beads and a T-bar closure.
While Manic Monday may be a bit dated, bangles are definitely in. The auction will feature two circa-1980-90s Judith Leiber bracelets, one designed with gold-toned links and the other with gold toned and green enamel links. The pair is estimated at $200-$300.
Another Judith Leiber stunner is a crystal covered owl minaudiere bag. The multi-toned jeweled owl-form bag with gold leather lining and drop-in chain is estimated at $700-$900.
Statement earrings of every color and shape abound. A worthy representative of the category is a pair of Chanel drop earrings, estimated at $200-$300. These are gold-toned earrings, each having a central green glass cabochon and glass bead berry drops.
