Joshua Kodner to offer outstanding jewelry, fine art Feb. 29

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Outstanding fine art and luxury gemstone and diamond jewelry are important categories in Joshua Kodner’s auction to be held on Saturday, Feb. 29. Works by leading American and internationally renowned artists Le Pho, Childe Hassam, Sir Terry Frost, Nigel Cooke and Mr. Brainwash are featured in the upcoming auction. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

“The fine art is the best of the best. Everything we’re offering is by artists who are in high demand,” said Joshua Kodner, who is a fourth-generation auctioneer as well as a certified gemologist.

The 141-lot auction will open with a stunning pair of emerald (14.53 carats) and diamond (4.41 carats) earrings in 18K gold (below), which has an $80,000-$120,000 estimate. More than three dozen jewelry lots will follow.

One of the artists in highest demand is French Vietnamese painter Le Pho, whose large still life of a vase of flowers, is estimated at $50,000-$70,000. The framed and matted artwork has a Wally Findlay Galleries label on the back.

A large overlap oil-on-canvas titled Pyroclastic Fever by Nigel Cooke (b.1973-) is signed, titled and dated 2002 ($70,000-$90,000).

A Childe Hassam (American, 1859-1935) oil painting titled New York City is expected to sell for in excess of $100,000.

Sir Terry Frost’s Lilac + Lemon, a reverse oil and pencil on canvas, is signed, titled and dated “Oct 67.” The 50- by-40-inch abstract painting has a $20,000-$30,000 estimate.

Contemporary art is well represented by Mr. Brainwash’s Mickey, a 56-inch-tall riveted tin sculpture of the world’s favorite mouse (est. $80,000-$120,000).

A rare pair of Perles candleholders by Andre Debreuil (French, b. 1951-) is fabricated of wrought iron with melted brass details and crystals (est. $30,000-$50,000).
