CEDARHURST, N.Y. – A silver torah crown made circa 1820 in the Spanish region of Galicia and a trio of modernist candlesticks made in 1988 by Israeli designer and artist Zelig Segal (1933-2015) are among the treasures on offer at J. Greenstein & Co., Inc.’s Important Judaica Fall Auction, taking place on Wednesday, November 15. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The torah crown is decorated with lattice work, hand-cut birds and c-scrolls, acanthus leaf designs, and also outwardly facing lions and winged griffons. It stands slightly more than 10 inches tall and has an estimate of $55,000-$75,000.

The Zelig Segal candlesticks, none of which stand much taller than seven inches, carry a collective title: In Memory of the Destruction of the Temple. Estimated at $5,000-$7,000, the trio is one of eight lots of Zelig Segal works of judaica in the auction.

Also featured are 18 pieces by artist Shuki Freiman, who maintains an eponymous studio in Jerusalem. None have been offered at auction before. They include a circa-1988 hand-polished ram’s horn shofar ornamented with sterling silver and gold and estimated at $800-$1,200.
