Judith Leiber purses add sparkle to Benefit Shop’s Oct. 20 auction

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Choice antiques and art will appear in The Benefit Shop Foundation Inc.‘s Red Carpet auction on Wednesday, October 20, starting at 10 am Eastern time. The 816-lot lineup will feature a large collection of Asian arts, antiques, jewelry, luxury fashion and decorative arts. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

A likely standout is an antique Persian Tabriz oversized handmade wool rug, estimated at $10,000-$20,000, which has an intricate multi toned floral, vine and leaf detail.

Asian arts sourced from a decades-long collector with homes in Westchester, New York and Palm Beach figure prominently into the auction. Highlights include a framed ink and color on silk artwork estimated at $500-$1,000. It depicts an older Asian man, an Asian child and a tiger sitting under a tree by a waterfall and a stream.

Fine art will be well represented in this auction and an undisputed highlight is sure to be the Victor Salmones bronze of a female nude, titled Woman in the Wind. Estimated at $2,000-$10,000, the 1973 work stands 38in tall and was purchased from the artist’s studio in Mexico.

Fashionistas will enjoy a striking collection of Judith Leiber purses, led by a vintage multi-colored crystal-encrusted Chatelaine pouch-style minaudiere estimated at $1,000-$3,000. Also included is an abstract multicolored crystal-encrusted purse with floral and abstract patterns, estimated at $1,000-$2,500, and a crystal-encrusted Lemon Slice minaudiere boasting costume cabochons and gold-tone hardware, estimated at $500-$3,000.

Rounding out the October 20 Red Carpet auction will be a pair of free standing life-size wood candelabras depicting a man blowing air out a shell with dolphins in Italian styled carvings at its base, estimated at $500-$1,500, and a Louis XV-style French bureau plat desk with ornate gold toned brass accents and drawer handles, estimated at $1,000-$2,500.
