PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auction House will host their annual Mid-Century Furniture and Design sale on Saturday, Oct. 17. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding.

The sale features a breadth of 20th century art and design including mid-century modern furniture along with Art Deco, Jansen, French, Italian and English designs. Prominent artisans are represented with pieces from masters such as Gaston Poisson, Jules Leleu, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Louis van Teeffelen, Eames, Gio Ponti and Milo Baughman.

Leading the sale are three oil on canvas paintings by abstract modernist painter Ludwig Sander (American, 1906-1975) which were consigned directly by the family of the artist. Sander studied in Paris and Munich, as well as in New York under Elmer Brown and Alexander Archipenko. By the late 1950s, Sander had settled into his style, creating works composed of geometric abstractions, with planes of color traversed by horizontal and vertical lines. The three works in Kamelot’s sale include lot 185 (above), which measures a whopping 80 inches by 44 inches and is estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Mid-century modern furniture and decorative arts hit the mark in a gamut of pieces from seating, tables, credenzas and desks to lighting and rugs.

Italian pieces in the auction comprise over 80 lots. Collectors of Fornasetti-style furniture will have some nice pieces to choose from including lot 24, an interesting mid-century modern three-drawer modern Trompe-l’œil commode (below) in the manner of Fornasetti, circa 1960, estimated at $1,000-$1,800.
