PHILADELPHIA – 2020 marks Kamelot Auction House’s 15th annual Garden & Architectural Sale, a world-famous collection of garden and architectural antiques from across the globe. This renowned auction will be a two-day event this year, with day one taking place on May 2 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time and day two on May 7 at 1 p.m. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.
Kamelot’s Garden & Architectural Sales are always a great place to find unique architectural elements, such as the walnut fireplace mantel (above) attributed to Daniel Pabst. Expected to bring $5,000-$7,000 at auction, the piece boasts beautifully carved owls on each side. Gorgeous entryways include the stained glass door in Lot 6, or Lot 97, a magnificent pair of iron doors and matching transom, which has an estimate of $4,000-$6,000. For niche items, check out Lot 493, a candy jar set display by Vendo Solo circa 1930, or the adjustable 19th century dentist’s chair in Lot 497.
Decorative pieces sure to complement a garden include Lots 15 and 201, fountains by Italian American artist Cartaino Sciarrino Paolo (below). Lot 111 is an unusual bronze sculpture of three boys harvesting crabs, estimated at $1,000-1,800, and an imposing pair of bronze lions can be found in Lot 173.
For lovely places to plant flowers, multiple options can be found in this sale, such as Lot 34, a pair of 19th century J.J. Ducel cast-iron garden urns. For those with less subtle tastes, try the pair of horse and putti decorated planters in Lot 55.
The Garden & Architectural Sale presents a wide-ranging collection of outdoor furniture. It doesn’t get more classic than the cast-iron benches in Lots 132 and 133, which are each valued at $1,000-$1,500. For an understated look, check on Lot 45, an elegantly simple pair of wooden benches. Lot 127, an oak table inset with Dutch tiles, circa 1900, would make a whimsical potting table for any stylish gardener. Blend in with your plants with Lot 216, an adorable faux bois cast stone dining set.
Buyers with more contemporary taste also have plenty of lots to choose from. Lot 2 is a kinetic sculpture by American artist Jerome Kirk accompanied by a signed book, which is estimated to bring $5,000-$8,000.
This sale also features multiple pieces by Swiss industrial designer Willy Guhl, such as Lot 314, a set of three asymmetrical concrete planters. For seating, try the set of six iron and rubber Fritz Hansen chairs in Lot 317, or Lot 295, a geometric iron and marble patio set. The yellow fiberglass bench in Lot 284 is the perfect centerpiece for any modern art-loving gardener.
