PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auctions will debut their new location, 2216 E. Allegheny Ave., in the heart of the city’s emerging Port Richmond neighborhood, with a four-day 1,500-lot auction series to begin Nov. 8 with a Fine Art Sale. To follow, they will be having an American and European Furniture Sale on Nov. 9, a Mid-Century and Design Sale on Nov. 11 and an online-only Marketplace Sale Nov. 13. Kamelot Auctions’ Fine Art auction will present over 150 lots in an array of styles such as Asian, Impressionist and modern art. Art buyers can anticipate a broad range of fine art from world-renowned artists. One highlight of the sale will be Diego Rivera’s delicate watercolor (above) titled Mother and Child (est. $20,000-$40,000). Another exciting addition to this auction is an exquisite work by Pablo Picasso featuring a colorful aquatint print still life (below) titled Still Life with Lobster (est. $5,000-$8,000). A unique piece that will be featured is by postwar Italian artist Afro Basaldella titled Composition (est. $5,000-$10,000).
On Thursday, Nov. 9 Kamelot Auctions will present their American and European Furniture auction of over 500 lots, bringing a variety of antique and 20th-century furnishings, lighting rugs and an extensive range of items from the original collection of the Maybrook mansion in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. The 20,000-square foot Gothic mansion was originally built on its 67-acre property by liquor baron, real estate developer, and art collector Henry Clay Gibson in 1881. The mansion along with its art and antique collection was passed on from the Gibson family to John W. Merriam, and then finally to his stepson, Robert Lockyer. The remainder of the collection is being offered by the mansion’s new owner Maybrook Estate LLC.
Noteworthy lots from the Maybrook Mansion include a magnificent collection of marble and oak pieces by Daniel Pabst, including an exceptionally carved and quartersawn oak china cabinet that is expected to bring between $6,000 and $8,000. Other Maybrook Mansion highlights include two monumental chandeliers with etched glass globes (Lot 417, $1,500-$2,500) and crystal prisms (Lot 418, $2,000-$3,000). Also of note are two rare and exceptional marble vitrines made from two types of marble (Lot 415, $7,000-$8,000) (Lot 416, $5,000-$8,000).

On Saturday, Nov. 11, Kamelot Auctions will be presenting their popular Mid-Century and Design Auction. The sale features over 400 lots of 20th-century art and design including mid-century modern furniture, Brutalist, Hollywood Regency, English, French and Italian designs. Prominent names are beautifully represented with pieces seen by Gio Ponti, Mies van der Rohe, Jean-Michel Frank, Josef Hoffman and others.
Offerings in the mid-century modern style run the gamut from seating, desks, tables, room dividers, lighting, starburst mirrors and outdoor furnishings. A stunning example of mid-century modern design is presented in the four lots of Mies Van der Rohe designed Barcelona chairs by Knoll. They are made of chrome-plated steel and ox-blood colored leather (Lot 104, 105, 106, 107, $1,000-$2,000 per pair). For connoisseurs of more delicate styles, Kamelot will be offering items in the glamorous Hollywood Regency style, such as a rare set of 18 painted and upholstered dining chairs, circa 1940 (Lot 230, $3,000-$5,000). Italian pieces in the auction are varied with many notable lots such as a pair of club chairs in the manner of Paulo Buffa circa 1960s. These chairs have been recovered in an eye-catching zebra printed cowhide (Lot 44, $2,000-$4,000).
This fine sale also offers a great selection of lighting including floor lamps, table lamps and chandeliers.
The auction event concludes on Monday, Nov. 13 with Kamelot’s online-only Marketplace Auction. During this auction, guests can take advantage of shopping Kamelot’s more moderately priced offerings. Among those can be found tables, chairs, sideboards, benches, bar carts and beds. Unexpected items such as vintage barware and Louis Vuitton luggage will also be included.
