Kamelot sales June 14, 16, 18 go from fine art to garden items

PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auction House will be hosting a three-day auction on June 14, 16 and 18. This three-day offering has a wide variety of lots from high-end garden items, selections from world-class artists and an array of traditional and mid-century furnishings.  Lots in the three-day sale include fine art, outdoor urns and statuary, decorative arts, lighting, rugs, mirrors and other design elements. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

The sales will commence on Thursday, June 14starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time with Kamelot’s biannual fine art sale. This sale has many exciting pieces from local and international artists ranging from modern to traditional art.  Many local artists will be featured including Stuart Shils and Arthur Meltzer. Additionally, dozens of pieces from Philadelphia artist Andrew Turner (Pennsylvania 1944-2001) will be offered featuring paintings on nontraditional materials such as wallpaper, bath mats and rugs.

Another unique artist featured in the sale is Red Grooms (American, b. 1937) whose drawings, multimedia displays in plexiglass and unique soft sculptures are certain to bring enthusiasm among collectors. An exceptional example of his work is the watercolor City Junket, Scene 10, The Exposition (above). This is a bright and dynamic work presented in a Lucite shadow box frame and estimated at $5,000-$ 8,000.

Kamelot will be presenting many exquisite pieces of traditional art. A notable work offered is an oil on canvas (lot 11) by Tranqillio Cremona (Italian 1837-1878). This ethereal piece depicting a woman with flowers (below) is estimated to bring $15,000-$25,000.

Kamelot will present its Town and County Auction on Saturday at 11 a.m. Traditional furnishings such as giltwood settees, marble commodes and eglomise mirrors will be presented. For a buyer with a modern sensibility, pieces in the manner of Gio Ponti will be auctioned in addition to fan favorites such as Knoll Barcelona chairs. One interesting item is a mid-century modern dresser in bright emerald green with cheerful floral accents (Lot 225). It features a hand-painted portrait of pop culture icon and world-renowned Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It is estimated to bring $1,000-$1,800.

The auction will conclude Monday, June 18, at noon with a sequel to Kamelot’s popular garden sale. Sconces, statues in marble and stone, benches, fountains, urns, garden seats and architectural elements will be presented to the public. A standout piece, Lot 1070, is a marble fountain depicting two mermaids surmounting in a hippocampus (est. $5,000-$7,000).
