Kamelot to host 4-session Modern Design series starting Feb. 22

PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auctions will hold a week full of February Modern Sales, kicking off on Wednesday February 22 and Thursday, February 23 with back-to-back sales titled Design | French | Italian | American. They will be followed by a Continental, Modern and Architectural sale that begins at 7 pm Eastern time on February 23 and also a Reflect and Rediscover sale on Saturday, February 25, which begins at 1 pm Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The Modern sales feature many beloved designers and styles alike. A likely top lot in the Day One session, scheduled for February 22, is a two party skyscraper bookcase after Paul Frankl in cerused and painted oak, estimated at $1,200-$1,800.

Among the sleek and trendy pieces is an attractive pair of tinted oak drinks tables on ebonized bases that have an estimate of $700-$900. Also on offer is a circa-1950 two part restored L sofa with an estimate of $1,000-$1,500.

Eye-catching Art Deco pieces can be found throughout the sales. Day One contains a circa-1945 French walnut and brass sideboard attributed to Charles Dudouyt and estimated at $1,500-$2,500. Kamelot is also offering a one-of-a-kind modern artist-made mica and gilt resin mirror, estimated at $1,000-$1,500, and a Mesa mahogany coffee table in the manner of T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, estimated at $4,000-$6,000.

Day two of Kamelot’s Modern sales, taking place February 23, boasts a variety of unique furniture and decorative pieces. Pretty in pink is lot 2183, a two-door lacquered cabinet labeled Capellini and estimated at $400-$600. Another standout is a glass and brass nine-light chandelier by Sciolari having rainbow tinted prisms and an estimate of $1,000-$1,500. Equally compelling is a circa-1960 French macassar ebony and inlaid four door sideboard with a sycamore interior, estimated at $1,200-$1,800. Also of note is a circa-1980 set of four French steel and faux ostrich chairs with curved backs, estimated at $800-$1,200; and a circa-1946 Jean Prouve Dacytlo desk in oak, steel and aluminum, estimated at $8,000-$12,000.
