CORONA DEL MAR, Calif. – King’s Auctions Inc., in partnership with California Estate Sales/Auction Gallery, the longtime purveyor of rare, original paintings, jewelry and museum quality stone and jade carvings, has announced a premier auction event Saturday, Sept. 28. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

Many of the lots represented come from a private collection of original signed oils.

With 50 lots in all, Lot 11 is drawing a great deal of attention with a Lio Kuo Sung (Guosung) signed edition of the painted ink on paper scroll: Which Is Earth?, no 82, dated 1979. Liu is widely regarded as one of the earliest and most important advocates and practitioners of modernist Chinese painting. The start price is $15,000 on a work that could realize $80,000 on auction day.

Several revered artists grace this auction with Lot 15 featuring a beautiful signed oil original by Leon Francios Comerre. The Moroccan Woman reflects the transitions Comerre made in his artistic travels, first winning the gold medal in 1867 while a student of Alphonse Colas, then studying at the famous Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts with Alexandre Cabanel, where the influence of orientalism fluidly graced his work. Start price: $30,000.

Vaunted Russian artist Igor Pantuhoff is featured in Lots 4-7 with signed oil paintings. Highly regarded for decades in Hollywood, his avid collectors have included Frank Sinatra, Jackie Kennedy and Howard Hughes. The four paintings in this series feature his popular women in profile. Start price: $250.

Lot 16 features Ansel Adam’s Monolith, the Face of Half Dome in a stamped and numbered gelatin silver print (18/350). This same print graces the cover of Adams’ best selling book, The Portfolios of Ansel Adams and has a start price of $7,500.

The 1800s oil painting original from Arturo Orselli in Lot 21 is a life-size painting titled Soldier on Horse with dimensions of 77 x 66 inches framed. Its start price is $3,500

Max Tilke’s stunning antique oil work titled Arabian Dancing Girl is the subject of Lot 20, and a rare Louis Apol signed oil, Winter Cottage, is also proving a popular view in Lot 33. Meanwhile, Chagall’s Eiffel Tower appears in Lot 31 as a signed lithograph, and Bill Mack’s signed and numbered bronze work, Devotion: Mother with Child, indicates a start price of $5,000, Lot 46.

Amid the many beautiful oils and illustrations, intricate Chinese hard stone carvings represent four lots in the auction (Lots 40-44). Beautifully carved to the smallest detail, each carefully crafted piece just measures between 4 and 8 inches in dimension.

For Lot 17, it’s another rare carving, this time an antique wood and jade Chinese scepter believed to be Qing Dynasty. Measuring 17 inches in length, the ruyi scepter features three inlay carved jade plaques of cranes in the head set, center and bottom. Start price: $500.

In Lot 36, preview the large, museum-quality Orthoceras fossil from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, North Africa. This 80-pound conversation piece has a start price of $100. Also offered is antique Chinese cloisonné bowl in Lot 38; a Koi collection signed ceramic vase and plate in Lots 26 and 27; and a hand-carved Oriental chess set in Lot 41.

Unique jewelry pieces also find their way to this Sept. 28 auction with the first lot of the day—Lot 1—featuring a blue star sapphire ring, 18.85 carats, crowned with 12 diamonds in a white gold setting. The start price is $1,000, but its natural star quality should fetch substantially more.

Lot 2, a vintage Hopi sterling silver cuff bracelet is garnering pre-bids already, while Lot 14’s Native American sterling silver cuff is also taking notable bids. Lot 3 features the last of the jewelry features with an antique 18K gold cameo ring.

The auction will begin at 9 a.m. Pacific.
