PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auction House will be hosting a three-day auction on March 21, 23 and 26. Lots in the auction include Mettlach, Sevres, steins, bronzes, decorative arts, lighting, rugs, mirrors and other design elements. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Many of the large collections being offered come from the home of a private collector who, for over 50 years collected some of the world’s finest pieces of porcelain and KMP in addition to silver and beer steins. Featured collections include many lots of Sevres, more than 25 lots of KPM, and over 300 lots of fine beer steins, in addition, the largest collection of Meissen ever offered at once.
The sales will commence on Thursday, March 21, starting at 1 p.m. Eastern time with Kamelot’s sale Selections from the Collectors Vault. This sale has many exciting pieces ranging from stunning bronzes, silver and large collection of KPM. An exceptional example is a 19th century hand-painted KPM porcelain plaque of Ruth (above) having impressed KPM marks verso (est. $1,000-$2,000).
Another notable lot offered (lot 27) is a signed 19th century hand-painted KPM framed porcelain charger, signed Wagner circa 1870. This ethereal piece depicting a woman with flowers is estimated to bring $2,000-$3,000 at auction.
Many bronze sculptures will also be offered ranging in a diverse variety of styles. A wonderful example by Affortunato Gory (French/Italian), 1895-1925 is an Art Deco bronze and marble statue of a female figure, signed to base will be offered and it is estimated to bring $2,000- $3,000 at auction (lot 181).
On Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m., Kamelot will present its My Paris Apartment Auction, which features furniture, KPM, Meissen and Mettlach. Traditional furnishings such as giltwood settees, marble commodes and eglomise mirrors will be presented. Over 25 lots of delicate Meissen porcelain figures will be presented as well. One standout item is an antique Meissen porcelain figural group depicting a harvest celebration having blue underglaze mark and incised to base. It features a hand-painted group of elaborate figures (est. $800-$1,200).
This sale is also a beer stein collector’s dream with more than 300 steins. A standout piece of the sale is (Lot 535) an exceptional half-liter German Mettlach porcelain lidded beer stein, owl on shield with wolfhounds, #2004, marked on the base (est. $1,000-$2,000).
Many lots of Sevres, the famed French porcelain maker, will be offered as well. One beautiful example is lot 176, a late 19th century French Sevres cobalt porcelain and gilt bronze casket. Having an intricately painting cover, it shows the true quality that Sevres embodies (est. $600-$900).
Furniture will also be featured. One notable lot is 406, a set of 22 French Louis XVI-style side chairs having cane backs and seats (est. $3,000-$5,000).
On Tuesday, March 26, at 10 a.m., Kamelot Auction House will host Continental Furniture, Porcelain, Steins and Art Glass. Here buyers can aquire a myriad of unique pieces. Collectors have more chances to purchase steins, porcelain, silver and jewelry. Lots also include one-of-a-kind lighting and architectural pieces and furniture. This eclectic sale offers a wide array of periods and styles. A popular and unique Lot 265 lot an antique Smith & Wesson Model No. 2 Army Civil War-era revolver (est. $ 1,000-$1,500). Another lot gaining attention is lot 217, two American Pairpoint lamps, marked and numbered (est. $800-$1,200.).
