NEW YORK – Last Chance by LiveAuctioneers will present a variety of Filipino Bulul rice god statues on Nov. 19. Absentee and Internet live bidding for the curated 20-lot auction will be provided exclusively by LiveAuctioneers.com.
A Bulul is a carved wooden figure that the Igorot peoples of northern Luzon used to guard their rice crops. The sculptures are highly stylized representations of ancestors, and are thought to gain power from the presence of the ancestral spirit. The Ifugao, one of the groups within the Igorot culture, are particularly noted for their skill in carving Bululs.
