CHICAGO – Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will offer a spectacular collection of fine jewelry April 10-11. The auction catalogs for this important sale contain more than 1,100 lots of diamonds and gemstones in all colors of the spectrum. Day One highlights include a “wrapped heart” brooch by Verdura containing 185 round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 3.16 carats total and 28 pink oval spinels weighing more than 45 carats total. Set in platinum and yellow gold, the brooch (above) has a $30,000-$40,000 estimate.
Numerous platinum diamond rings are offered in the auction. One of the most distinctive is an Art Deco-style ring that features a 6.08 carat Asscher-cut diamond flanked by two baguette diamonds (est. $60,000-$80,000).
At the top level of estimates is a platinum and 18K rose gold ring sporting a 4.04 carat marquise-cut fancy brown-pink diamond complemented by two trapezoidal-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.78 carats. This ring is expected to sell for $200,000 to $300,000.
Day Two’s offerings are impressive as well, starting with a diamond necklace that features a 1.69 carat diamond cut in the shape of a horse head. The diamond is set in a yellow gold horseshoe containing 46 round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.55 carat total and six baguette-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.45 carat total. The pendant is suspended from an 18K yellow gold flat anchor link-style chain (est. $5,000-$7,000).
A pair of bi-color gold and diamond ear clips containing 68 round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.25 carats total should easily reach the $2,000-$3,000 estimate.
Emerald is the birthstone for May, and the auctions contain dozens of the vivid green gemstones from which to choose. An emerald and diamond ring featuring a 3.15 oval cabochon-cut emerald carat emerald is surrounded by 18 round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.56 carat total (est. $2,000-$3,000.)
