SHELTON, Conn. – From the black-on-black of a basic Ford Model T to the colorful regalia on hand-painted Britains soldiers, Lloyd Ralston Gallery’s auction Sept. 12 covers the broad spectrum of the toy kingdom in more than 500 lots. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

“The bulk of the vehicles are Fords, from Model T’s to modern Mustangs,” said Lloyd Ralston. “The seller delivered the collection himself all the way from California.”

The auction will open at 10 a.m. Eastern with a tin windup Bing Ford Model T in its original box. Estimated at $300-$660, the 6 1/4-inch auto already has a handful of presale bids.

Perhaps the most unusual car in the Ford collection is a celluloid windup Lincoln Zephyr made in prewar Japan. Though the 7 1/2-inch car’s key-wind mechanism is not working and the chassis is cracked, Ralston estimates the rare classic could sell for $500-$1,000.

“I had not seen one before and some people don’t know what it is,” said Ralston.

Cast-iron toys will include Fords by Arcade in colors other than the standard black.

The auction will include a collection of Schuco mechanized vehicles and figures. One of the most desirable is a near-mint Schuco 6080 Elektro Fire Engine in the original box. This remote-controlled vehicle is complete except for a missing fireman. The 1950s toy has a $600-$900 estimate.

Another battery-operated remote-controlled toy is a 1950s Lite It Up Ford sedan by Ichiko of Japan. The car is in excellent working condition and has its original box in rough shape. The estimate is $100-$200.

Also from the 1950s comes a set of Build Your Own Sports Cars by Irwin. The complete boxed set no. 1303 contains approximately three dozen parts to assemble two 9-inch friction-powered cars. In its original illustrated box, which is worn and taped, the set has a $200-$300 estimate.

There are also many lots of die-cast vehicles by Tootsietoy, Tekno and Dinky.

Ranks of dimestore soldiers will be sold along with Britains and Hocker sets. Included with the Britains are boxed Knights of Agincourt.
