NEW YORK – On Tuesday, November 1, starting at 4 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will conduct a sale titled Exclusive Art Pottery and More, featuring 257 lots of head-turning pieces, many by name artists. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Among the works on offer are a Suzanne Ramie large stoneware vase for Atelier Madoura, with the colors of a dusky orange sunset; a kidney-shape, gold-colored dish by Hans Hedberg; a sculptural stoneware vase by Christina Muff which, for all the world, looks like a puffy cloud has floated down from the sky and taken a firmer, more solid form; a stoneware vase by Svend Hammershoi in an absolutely striking and slightly menacing shade of black; and a few Zsolnay vases, both with spellbinding yellow-green luster glazes.

Other eminently functional pieces featured in the November 1 lineup include a pair of yellow-glazed Art Deco tea caddies by Wilhelm Kage; an Eva Staehr-Nielsen for Saxbo glazed stoneware teapot with a wicker handle; a large stoneware bowl with an indulgently rich green glaze by Carl-Harry Stalhane for Rorstrand; and a set of seven teacups and saucers with a pale turquoise glaze by Jens H. Quistgaard for Bing & Grondahl.

The undeniable star of the auction is a unique circa-1970 vase by the British-Austrian artist Lucie Rie. The large Modernist piece has a fluted body and a trumpet-shape mouth as well as a glaze that reflects earthy hues. Signed “LR” and described as being in “excellent condition,” it carries an estimate of $20,000-$24,000.

Another standout is a sculpture by Danish ceramicist Ole Bjorn Kruger that dates to the 1960s or 1970s. The stoneware piece is glazed with a sedate shade of turquoise that is contrasted with a forceful black. Its estimate is $1,500-$2,000.

The final highlight is a Hand, Horse and Man sculpture by Swedish artist Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg Studio. Described as rare, the undated piece is advertised as being in “perfect condition” and has an estimate of $1,500-$2,000.
