NEW YORK – As a memorable year of estate auctions comes to a close, Roland New York announces details of its Dec. 8 Holiday Sale. With Roland’s previous 2012 auctions as diverse as the estate of legendary playwright Arthur Laurents to that of Palm Beach socialite Dame Celia Lipton Farris (whose palatial home and many of the collection sold was once owned by the Duchess of Marlborough, Consuelo Vanderbilt), many unique and worthwhile purchases were made by savvy collectors, designers and dealers. The Dec. 8 event proves to be no less exciting, containing property from several interesting estates. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide the Internet live bidding.

With over 100 lots of jewelry, ample silver, fine art and objects of virtue, buyers will have an excellent opportunity to find that ever elusive perfect gift. Many investment pieces will also be offered. One such item is lot 401, an impressive bronze figure of a classical woman by Paul Moreau Vauthier. This fine parcel gilt and patinated bronze figure stands over 4ft tall and is signed and dated “1878.” It is expected to fetch between $25,000 to $35,000.

The sleeper of the sale may be found, however, just a few lots away at number 405. A large and imposing Tiffany sterling vanity mirror, replete with putti and other Rococo decoration, was removed from the direct descendent of a prominent industrialist family of the gilded age. While the family’s identity must remain protected, the glorious mirror speaks of the age and wealth of its possessor. With potential to far surpass it’s conservative estimate of $5,000-6,000, this unreserved treasure may prove to be the star of the sale and a lovely way to end the year at Roland.

For further information on any item in the sale, call 212-260-2000 or e-mail info@rolandantiques.com.
