BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – I.M. Chait Gallery/Auctioneers will present an International Fine Arts Auction on Sunday, May 21. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Featured in the 300-lot sale is a large and elaborately carved, ruby and zoisite covered tureen by Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio, a contemporary gemstone carver whose works are displayed in museums in the United States and Europe. The deep, oval dish set with a ruby dragon to each side, while the cover is mounted with a ruby dragon plaque, finely carved in light relief and flanked by two gold vermeil handles in the form of dragons. The tureen has a $25,000-$35,000 estimate.

Another outstanding lapidary work by Aparicio is a monumental amethyst and citrine chess set.

Several rare examples of Chinese carved cinnabar lacquerware of the Qianlong period are offered in the auction including a large table screen (below) and a pair of scholar’s table cabinets.

I.M. Chait will present a comprehensive selection of modern and contemporary fine art consisting of paintings by Chuang Che (below) and Walasse Ting; prints by Robert Rauschenberg, Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami; sculptures by Felipe Castañeda, Erté and Kumiko Imanaka, together with important bronzes after Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Auguste Rodin; and a variety of Picasso ceramics.

An array of exquisite jewelry, diamonds and timepieces will cross the auction block, including Rolex Day-Date II and Daytona wristwatches.
