BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Nye & Company Auctioneers’ two-day, online-only 700-lot Chic and Antique Estate Treasures auction, slated for Wednesday and Thursday, July 26 and 27, will feature an extensive selection of fine art and decorative arts and will start at 10 am Eastern time on each day. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Day 1, July 26, will be a single-owner session of items from a private New Jersey family that has been avidly collecting for decades. Of note is a maquette for Moses Transcendent by Leon Underwood, estimated at $5,000-$7,000. The abstract figural work has impeccable provenance.
Other standouts come from the famed Lalique firm. A crystal rooster figure designed by Marc Lalique circa 1953 has an estimate of $3,000-$5,000, and an opalescent molded Tulipes vase bearing the signature R. Lalique is estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

The family consigned numerous examples of lighting to the auction, which includes chandeliers, sconces and lamps. There is also a wide variety of traditional furniture, antique porcelain, whimsical bookends and empty frames. Within this group is a Suzanne Kasler designed brass-mounted Monaco chest for Hickory Chair.
Wu Jian’s canvas titled Pure Ages depicts a ballerina highlighted against a dark background. The dramatic composition, which is estimated at $2,000-$4,000, is an extremely eye-catching work by a sought-after contemporary Chinese artist. Arts and Crafts pottery, Asian ceramics and fine art round out the group from the well-heeled New Jersey family.

The second day, July 27, could be titled The Decorator’s Eye as it is largely comprised of two consignments. The first is a group of new or nearly-new contemporary Giorgetti furniture. The exquisitely designed Italian furnishings largely came to auction from storage, and much of it had to be removed from its original packaging in order to prepare it for sale. Demanding mention is a pair of Progetti leather-upholstered barrel-back club chairs by Giorgetti, estimated at $600-$800.

For Realtors or stagers looking to prepare property for sale, this auction presents an opportunity to acquire excellent quality furnishings for modest sums. Some pieces are designed by Ching Wing Lo, such as lot 520, a low table for Giorgetti that has an estimate of $400-$600.
More contemporary pieces are included in the auction, such as a 1963 oil on canvas by March Avery (American, b. 1932-) titled Modern Figure in Blue that carries an estimate of $5,000-$8,000. Ms. Avery wasn’t formally taught, but as the daughter of artists Milton Avery and Sally Avery (nee Michel), she developed a following by distilling images to their abstract elements.
Two works by the Mexican-American artist CHROMA (aka Rick Wolford, b. 1953-) will also come up for bid, including Ring Master Mini, a two-part, color beaded huichol-style sculpture from 2022, estimated at $800-$1,200. The piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist.
