Meridian marks WWII anniversary with photo auction Aug. 21

CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. – As the world commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, Meridian Creations Inc. on Friday, Aug. 21, will auction 49 wartime images taken by prominent Russian photographers. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding.

The auction, which will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern, features the following photographers:

Yevgeni Khaldei (1917-1997) – By the end of the war Khaldei was 28 and one of Russia’s greatest combat photographers. He worked for TASS, the biggest media agency in Russia and Pravda newspaper. Khaldei’s photographs are powerful and poignant documentations of the 20th-century. His wartime photographs were collected in a numerous publications in Russia and abroad. Khaldei’s international fame dates from the 1990s when exhibitions of his photographs began to be held in the West.

Samari Gurari (1916-1998) – Was in the active duty during the war as well as a military journalist for Izvestia newspaper, one of Russia’s most prominent. He worked as a photo correspondent at such historical events as the Parade on Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941 as well as the Victory Parade in Moscow on June 24, 1945 and Podsdam and Yalta conferences.

Aron Zamskiy (1908-1999) – Was in active duty during the war and received numerous awards for his works. His photos were published in the most prominent newspapers of Russia, Czech Republic and Hungary. Zamskiy had 20 group exhibitions and four solo exhibits.
