ALAMEDA, Calif. – Michaan’s will hold its monthly Gallery Auction on Friday, July 14. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The July 14 sale starts with the furniture and decorative arts section, boasting decorative mainstays such as Swarovski, Wedgwood, Llardo and Nippon export pieces. A standout in this category is a 19th-century Neoclassical alabaster and ormolu annular clock with an estimate of $3,000-$4,000. The furniture choices are led by a circa-1870 American Renaissance Revival walnut and marquetry center table, while the sterling silver section includes pieces by Justis & Armiger, Wallace and Reed & Barton.
The fine arts portion of the sale lineup has a striking collection of photography by artists such as O. Winston Link, Arthur Clarence Pillsbury and Michael Kenna, who is represented by a gelatin silver print photo of the Chrysler Building, estimated at $700-$1,000. One of the painting highlights is a beautiful portrait of the granddaughter of Dona Letty del Rosario, painted by renowned Filipino artist Federico Aguilar Alcuaz and estimated at $4,000-$6,000. Alcuaz was well known for his portraits of Manila socialites.
Michaan’s jewelry selection has a wide range of desirable pieces. Some of the most unique are a Pal Kepenyes mixed metal Milagros necklace, estimated at $1,500-$2,500; an Art Deco 18K white gold, platinum, enamel, diamond and and black onyx locket brooch, estimated at $1,000-$1,500; and an Erte Beauty and the Beast 14K gold, mother-of-pearl, black onyx and diamond necklace. Michaan’s is also offering a ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust in 18K gold, as well as a sparkling display of Art Deco platinum charm bracelets.

The Asian art section of the July 14 gallery auction features a wide variety of ceramic vessels. These include a green glazed vessel with a spout, a large Chinese ruby ground famille rose porcelain bowl with a gilt-painted Children at Play scene, estimated at $1,000-$1,500; and two fine examples of blue and white porcelain jardinieres, together estimated at $400-$600. Japanese fine art has a strong presence with woodblock prints and a painting by Toyokuni.
