ALAMEDA, Calif. – Michaan’s Auctions will host a benefit auction in support of the Alameda County Community Food Bank on May 7. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding for the 300-lot auction, which begins at 10 a.m. Pacific.

For the past several months, Michaan’s has been acquiring fine art, antiques and collectibles from private collectors and antique dealers across the West Coast. The fundraiser will take these treasures and use them to assist this worthy organization in need; the perfect ingredients for a Recipe for Hope.

The Recipe for Hope auction is a wonderful way to add to one’s own personal collection while helping to alleviate the suffering of those in need. The auction will feature approximately 350 lots of fine art, antiques, sterling silver, jewelry, porcelain, textiles, Asian items and contemporary crafts and collectibles. Most of the lots are new to the market and come from personal estate collections.

Since January of 2008, the demand for emergency food assistance has doubled. The Alameda County Community Food Bank serves one in six people in Alameda County, many of them children from working families and seniors which, adds up to approximately 49,000 people. Over half of the 22 million pounds of food distributed last year was fresh fruits and vegetables.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward providing food, nutrition, education and hunger prevention advocacy in the community. The auction will be held at Michaan’s Main Gallery, at 2751 Todd St., Alameda, CA 94501. Previews begin on May 4 and continue until the day of sale.
