ALAMEDA, Calif. – On Saturday, February 19, Michaan’s will conduct a Gallery Auction laden with art, furniture, decorative arts, Asian art and jewelry. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Jewelry brightens every monthly auction on Michaan’s calendar, and February is no different. The selection in its February 19 sale leads off with a diamond, ruby and 14K yellow gold clown pendant necklace designed with freely moving hands, estimated at $800-$1,200.

Another stunner is a 14K yellow gold ballerina brooch, its face featuring a carved ruby cabochon and its dress accented by round-cut rubies and sapphires and further accented by two full-cut diamonds. The brooch is estimated at $300-$500.

Rounding out the jewelry highlights is a highly stylized diamond and yellow gold ring featuring two figures flanking a diamond weighing more than two carats. The figures pose as if they are lifting the diamond. This ring carries an estimate of $5,000-$7,000.

Artworks include an untitled oil on canvas by Friedel Dzubas (German, 1915-1994), estimated at $4,000-$6,000; Nobuo Sekine’s (Japanese, 1942-2019) 1993 mixed media and gold leaf on paper Phase Conception, G4 – 129, estimated at $1,500-$2,500; and a circa-1898 monumental lithograph credited to the American School, titled Sutro Baths, San Francisco and estimated at $4,000-$6,000.

Asian art has been key to Michaan’s Auctions since the company’s inception. A special Asian art highlight in the February 19 sale is a scroll painting in the style of Zhang Da Qian, titled Butterflies and signed with four artist seals, estimated at $1,500-$2,500. Notable ceramic pieces in the same sale include a Chinese Longquan Guan-type lobed bowl, estimated at $600-$800, and a Chinese Jian Hare’s Fur tea bowl, estimated at $700-$900.

On Friday, February 18, Michaan’s will hold a Luxury Sale featuring fine wines and spirits, couture, furniture and decorative arts. Standouts in the session include a Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset Togo sofa, estimated at $5,000-$6,000, and a Povison-attributed contemporary media cabinet, estimated at $400-$600.
