CORNWELL-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Although Bonne Terre, Missouri, is just a small town, it is home to a huge and astounding collection of pop culture memorabilia. About an hour south of St. Louis is a cavernous building containing the lifelong collections of local entrepreneur, Kevin Blackwell. The fabled collection, well known to locals, will be sold at one extraordinary auction Aug. 18-19. Mid-Hudson Galleries is handling the sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
The Blackwell Collection is rich in iconic items relating to the movies and TV. The worlds of rock ’n’ roll and country music are well covered as are baseball, football, basketball and boxing.
A small sampling of the many treasures in the Blackwell Collection would include Marilyn Monroe’s mink coat (a gift from Joe DiMaggio), Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones costume, Michael Jackson’s stage-worn armor and Burt Reynolds’ 1979 Pontiac “The Bandit” Trans Am (above).
There’s a John Wayne shotgun, handguns from The Sopranos, Muhammad Ali boxing gloves and a John F. Kennedy autographed baseball. Jackie Kennedy and President Richard M. Nixon also signed the ball.
For country music fans, there’s Hank, Willie, Waylon and Garth while those who love Nascar can bid on Dale, Sr.’s own Chevy Impala.
Throw into the mix Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Harley, assorted pinball machines and life-size molded elephants, and fans of popular culture start getting a sense of what this exciting auction will be all about.
