OXFORD, Mich. – Midwest Auction Galleries will conduct a two-day sale Nov. 16-17. Saturday’s sale will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern and consist of nearly 700 lots. Sunday’s session will begin at 11 a.m. and will have more than 650 lots. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.
A well-known restorer of Americana and primitives, Anthony Orlando, or Tony as his friends knew him, began collecting carousel horses around 1970. A commercial artist by training, he became a full-time restorer of Americana in 1974. His first big project was to restore Greenfield Village’s carousel. He was considered one of the best restorers in the country. Included among the items from his estate is a John Gould hand colored lithograph, a rare and desirable pair of Punch & Judy cast-iron door stops as well as other Punch & Judy collectibles, a large collection of early movie posters and lithographs, and many more lots of good Americana.
Also included in the sale is a large collection of Chinese antiques and works of art including a rare Chinese Nanjing Yunjin brocade cover, a variety of jade, porcelain and bronze.
Fine works of art include a Maurice Utrillo oil painting on board, a Carlos Merida tempera painting on paper, and an 18th century George Morland oil painting on canvas, just to name a few.
