ALAMEDA, Calif. – Michaan’s Auctions has drawn from two departments to forge a one-of-a kind sale. Modern artisan furniture will be combined with American and European furniture and decorations, creating an auction designed to pique the interest of a multitude of buyers.

LiveAuctionheers.com will provide Internet live bidder on the more than 225 lots. The auction will include a large selection of Tiffany Studios, Meissen and Art Nouveau styles to choose from.

Modern furniture will feature pieces from names such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Arthur Umanoff, George Nelson, Hans Wegner, Paul Laszlo and Finn Juhl. The auction will be held on June 8 at 10 a.m. PDT in Michaan’s Auctions main gallery with previews beginning on June 1.

Two different, yet equally exceptional pieces from Tiffany Studios are among the highlighted lots for sale. A Tiffany Studios Spider lamp is beautiful in its dark accents and simple, angular, clean design (lot 1123, estimate: $30,000-$50,000). In contrast is lot 1125, a Tiffany Studios poinsettia Favrile glass and bronze table lamp. Flowers form a continuous design encircle the shade, blooming in lovely jewel tones. The graceful, ornate body features three cylindrical feet that add a delightful quality to the piece ($30,000-$40,000). Both lamps and their shades are stamped with authentic Tiffany Studio marks.

Another beautiful decorative item for sale lies in a Gallé cameo glass vase. The vase depicts a tranquil landscape of a forest framing a mountain and lake. The pilgrim form vase is fashioned in gray colored glass with a shade variation that transitions from pale green to blue. The color palette of the scene is wonderfully complementary and includes forest green, brown, purple, black and blue. The signed vase measures approximately 19 inches in height and is being offered as lot 1129 with an estimate of $7,000-$9,000.

A saxophone identified as belonging to jazz immortal Charlie Parker is being offered as lot 1185 ($30,000-$35,000). Jazz historian Bob Dietsche has researched details in the interesting saga of the Parker saxophone, with all facts pointing to the validity of Parker’s ownership of it.

A wide variety of clocks will be offered in the sale including a French champleve enamel gilt bronze mantel clock (lot 1084, $12,000-$15,000). The clock features depictions of amorini and painted muses as well as numerous other desirable design elements. A band of paste diamonds frame the dial and a pendulum decorated with a star adorns the early 20th century clock, which measures 16 1/2 x 9 3/4 x 6 inches.

The auction’s modern and contemporary furniture was designed by prominent American, Danish, Italian and Swedish artisans. An outstanding lot sure to draw strong collector interest lies in a rare Frank Lloyd Wright table and six chairs (lot 1200, $80,000-$100,000). Produced in 1903, the set is thought to be one of only two made. Wright was specifically sought out to commission the prototype, which ended up in the possession of a fortunate consignor whose grandfather was a furniture manufacturer. Genius in its simplicity and streamlined design, the Wright lot should entice intense bidder competition.

Michaan’s Auctions is also offering an outstanding Hans Wegner old growth teak draw leaf table purchased in Copenhagen in 1957 as lot 1249 ($1,500-$2,000). Yet another rare find is seen in a Finn Juhl Chieftains oak chair circa 1949 (lot 1248, $3,000-$6,000). Also highlighted are two Knoll manufactured lots. A Mies van der Rohe Barcelona daybed is being offered as lot 1205 and is in excellent condition. The bed, estimated at $2,000-$4,000, boasts a solid teak frame, brown leather upholstery and chrome legs. It was designed in 1929. A Knoll Saarinen Tulip table is also available, conservatively estimated at $300-500.

Rounding out the sale is a grouping of 16 Arthur Umanoff wood serving pieces, a J. Risley three-piece wrought iron set consisting of a chair, ottoman and side table, a Satterini rug and a Peter Huidt leather sofa.
