MONROVIA, Calif. – Moran’s 20th Century Art + Design auction on Tuesday, Nov. 19, is filled with an exciting mix of works from the century’s most covetable artists and craftsmen. Moran’s is also including a selection of masterworks from the century’s leading Mexican silversmiths consigned from the Cindy Tietze-Hodosh and Stuart Hodosh collection in the catalog. Important works of art from the era’s leading contributors fill the auction. California artist Mary Corse features in the auction with a work from the Grey Light Grid Square series (above), which is estimated between $50,000-$70,000.

A colorful geometric work, Accompanying Warm, from Julian Stanczak is sure to appeal to collectors with its warm palette and undulating pattern (below). The oil on canvas is expected to sell between $30,000-$50,000.

Moran’s will to debut works from the estate of artist Betty Younger, whose large-scale steel sculptures make a great contribution to the auction.

Admirers of mid-century furnishings need look no further than November’s auction. A pair of chairs from Sam Maloof made for artist Emil Kosa Jr. are as beautiful as they are comfortable and is expected to bring $15,000-$20,000 (below). A gorgeous group of “Fjord” chairs and ottoman from Patricia Urquiola are sure to appeal to lovers of Modern design.

A rare multibell chandelier from Paolo Soleri, one of only two known to exist, makes an exciting addition to the auction and is expected to bring $15,000-$20,000.

Moran’s brings to market several stand-out examples of Mexican silver from the collection of Cindy Tietze-Hodosh and Stuart Hodosh. A stunning necklace and bracelet set with cat’s eye moonstones from the famed silversmith Antonio Pineda would make an important addition to any collection and should bring between $4,000-$6,000 at auction.

November is filled with wonderful works of decorative art from the top designers and artists. An iconic Henning Koppel for Georg Jensen pitcher No. 992, affectionately known as the “Pregnant Duck” pitcher, is a masterpiece in form and is estimated to sell between $5,000-$7,000. A beautifully made vase from Claremont-based Harrison McIntosh is one of the largest and most impressive pieces Moran’s has handled and is expected to bring $3,000-$5,000.
