Nadeau’s brings maximum sparkle to its April 30 auction

WINDSOR, Conn. – Nadeau’s Auction Gallery will hold a 605-lot sale of Asian, fine and decorative arts, jewelry, watches, furniture, rugs and Americana to take place on Saturday, April 30, starting at 10 am Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Watches and jewelry selections will likely claim several of the top lot slots in the sale, chief among them a diamond and amethyst engagement ring estimated at $15,000-$25,000. It features a central 3.4-carat pear-shaped diamond of I color and S12 clarity, and a band mounted with two pear-shaped amethysts. The ring is size 9 1/4 and is offered with its GIA certificate.

Another jewelry stunner is an 18K white gold, ruby and diamond bracelet, estimated at $3,000-$5,000. It sparkles with 17.15 carats of oval rubies and 9.46 total carats of round diamonds, and comes with an appraisal dated May 22, 2017. Also worthy of mention is an 18K gold Rolex Submariner watch, estimated at $10,000-$14,000. Its case measures 40 millimeters, it has a Jubilee band, and it is numbered #5860623. The watch is accompanied by its original brown leather Rolex box and warranty papers dated 1980.

Artworks are also well-represented, most notably by Olaf Carl Wieghorst’s (Danish-American, 1899-1988) Bucking Bronco, estimated at $4,000-$8,000. Wieghorst is known for his American frontier paintings. The oil on canvas is signed by the artist at the lower right.

A framed painting of a group of women, done by Matteo Sandona (Italian and American, 1881-1964), bears an estimate of $2,000-$4,000. The ethereal-looking signed oil on canvas measures 19 1/2 by 23 3/4in.

Decorative arts from the US, Europe and Asia feature in the lineup as well. Of particular interest is lot #250, a blue and white Chinese brush pot estimated at $2,000-$4,000. It is decorated with the image of an official making a presentation to a sage peasant accompanied by his bullock Daoist symbol. This example likely dates from the 18th century or earlier.

Furniture and Americana choices include a late 18th-century lift top painted dowry chest from Pennsylvania, estimated at $4,000-$6,000. It is decorated in part with a red tulip and heart design. The chest has two drawers with a center drop and bracket feet. It comes from the estate of Florence Yannios of Guilford, Connecticut.

A second prize from the Yannios estate is a two-part Chippendale mahogany highboy, estimated at $3,000-$5,000. It features a bonnet top, fan-carved center drawers, fluted pilasters, carved pinwheels, cabriole legs and ball and claw feet. It measures 113 by 37-1/2in.
