NEW YORK – Members of the prestigious New Hampshire Antique Dealers Association have put together an exciting online auction of Americana that will be hosted by Jasper52 on Thursday, Sept. 17. Primitives, pottery, textiles, folk art and American Indian art are a few of the categories covered in the sale. Bid absentee or live online exclusively through LiveAuctioneers.

The auction opens with a red and green Bear Paw applique quilt on a creamy white field and wraps up with a pair of cast-iron shooting gallery targets in the form of ducks.

Paintings are led by a fine oil on canvas depicting two young hunters with three hounds (above). The work is by John Henry Hill, who had his studio in Nyack, N.Y., but summered in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. The painting is dated 1860 and has a $8,000-$10,000 estimate.

A carousel goat, a scarce form, is from the workshop of Gustav Dentzel in Philadelphia and attributed to noted carver Savator Cernigliaro. The jumper is unrestored and in original paint, which is rare. It comes with a custom-made wood base for display (est. $27,000-$32,000).

From northern New England comes a boldly carved eagle standing 30 inches high with a 46-inch wingspan. It dates to circa 1800 and has a $9,000-$11,000 estimate.

A large Acoma Pueblo pottery olla that dates to the 1920s exhibits many of the stylistic attributes of the work of Mary Histia (1881-1973), who is known as Acoma Mary. The black-on-white Anasazi-style decoration and the use of fine line crosshatching with medallions and birds are also characteristic of her style. The jar is in mint condition (est. $4,500-$5,000).

What first appears to be a toy pond boat is actually a weathervane in the form of a sailboat. It first sailed out of Massachusetts around the early 1920s. E.G. Washburn & Co. of Danvers, Mass., probably manufactured the vessel.

These and nearly 400 additional lots will be offered in the auction, which will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, starting at 6 p.m. EDT.
