ASTI, Italy – Nova Ars Auction will sell an interesting design collection of modern Italian art of the 20th century at its online-only auction June 16. The sale lineup will include ceramics, furniture, lamps, chandeliers and glass works, with many objects made in Italy as well as pieces by renowned designers from around the world. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding.
Some modern pieces from Studio Alchimia and Superego complete the auction, making it a kaleidoscope of Italian design works from the early 1900s to present.
A stunning example of the latter is a baroque Proust armchair by Alessando Mendini, designed in 1978 and produced in 2013. With sculpted feet and armrests, the chair (above) is painted with a polychrome pattern forming a mosaic. Signed and dated “A.Mendina 2013,” the chair is estimated at €20,000,00-€30,000 ($22,470-$33,705).
Another standout is an Alessandro Guerriero and Alessandro Mendini, Ollo column, 85.6 inches high, having four glass shelves inside. It has an €8,000-€10,000 estimate.
From the early 1940s is an impressive marquetry bar by the Dassi company, probably designed by Pietro Grande. It measures 68 inches wide, 56 inches high and 21.6 inches deep. The estimate is €10,000-€12,000.
A Sorgente del Mobile rosewood dining table and six chairs by Angelo Mangiarotti, 1972, is expected to sell for €2,500-€3,000.
Tops in lighting is an adjustable table lamp by Gae Aulenti for Martinelli Luce, 1965, which carries a €2,000-€2,500 estimate.
