STOUFVILLE, Ontario, Canada – Oakwood Auctions is holding a premium stamp and coin auction to kick off the fall season. The September’s Spectacular Stamps four-day auction takes place September 3-6 beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern time each day. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers. All estimates are given in United States Dollars (USD).
The sale features more than 1,900 lots from six general categories, ranging from Canada, British Commonwealth, USA and Great Britain stamps, to collections and accumulations from around the world. Many fabulous finds at extremely low prices are expected to bring large crowds to this event.
The September 3 session will contain stamps and postal history items from Europe, including an extensive France collection dating to 1849, as well as a Sardinia 1853 #4 5c Blue Green F-VF MH estimated at $1,100-$1,350. Items on offer include many singles, sets, accumulations, collections and box lots from Austria to Yugoslavia, as well as some better quality material from Denmark, Finland, France and Colonies, Italy and Colonies, and Switzerland.
The second session, scheduled for September 4, is sure to attract a large crowd with its selection of premium stamps from Canada and USA. There are simply too many Canada and USA highlights to be noted in full, but standouts include lot 985, a USA 1875 #109 24c Deep Violet XF MPH with a Philatelic Foundation certificate of authenticity. With a catalog value of $21,000 and estimated at $5,500-$5,750, this will be sure to excite serious collectors.
Another featured stamp is lot 641, a Canada 1859 #13a 6p Gray Violet F UN, with outstanding eye appeal and a catalog value of $25,000. It is estimated at $5,000-$6,000.
Other head-turning North American stamps include early US classics, Victoria issues, as well as some spectacular Admirals. Lot 668, a Canada 1897 #65 $5 Olive Green VF MNH estimated at $1,200-$1,500 will bring significant attention from Canadian collectors.
The third session, taking place September 5, will offer premium British Commonwealth, South America, Middle East and Worldwide singles, sets, collections and accumulations, including lot 1296, a Falkland Islands 1933 #65-#76 M OG, estimated at $2,400-$2,750. This is the most prestigious and sought after British Commonwealth set, and is sure to excite even the most advanced collectors.
The fourth and final session, set for September 6, showcases a magnificent offering of stamps from Great Britain, as well as Africa and Asia. Offered will be singles, sets, collections, accumulations, and box lots for every collector at every price point. Highlights include lot 1722, a Great Britain 1929 SG #434-436a Imprimaturs VF MNH, as well as lot 1883, a Great Britain 1854 #7 6p Red Violet F-VF MLH, and also lot 1976, a Great Britain 1929 #29 1 Pound VF MNH.
