Oakwood Auctions to present Coins of the World Oct. 12

STOUFFVILLE, Ontario – Oakwood Auctions will present an exciting Coins of the World auction on Saturday, Oct. 12, featuring coins, banknotes, medals, tokens and keychains from ancient China and Rome to the modern era. Included in this sale are coins of bronze, copper, silver and aluminum, as well as some early hammered specimens, There are coins for those seeking moderately priced circulated collector items, along with many in the “superb gem” category. Featured is a major collection of early Chinese coinage, with many rarities, including Lot 24, an ancient Chinese bronze coin ($400-$600). Collections from Great Britain include Lot 193, a Great Britain 1806-1859 1 penny coin collection ($175-$225), as well as German collections, including Lot 139, a Germany 1957-1962 50 pfennig coin collection ($350-$400). Collections from Hungary, Australia, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Denmark and Portugal are but a few of the many countries represented in the auction.

For Canadian collectors there is everything from early Victorian copper to silver dollars. A large selection of certified superb cameo proof-like coins are available at conservative prices. Added to this are some interesting varieties, including Lot 398, a Canada 1967 silver dollar rotated die ($45-$60) and “Arnprior” silver dollars. Also available are a nice selection of affordable certified Canadian banknotes and some interesting varieties and rarities, including Lot 470c: Royal Bank of Canada 1927 $20 banknote F12 ($250-$350).

A variety of banknotes from China and Japan are included in the foreign banknote section, highlighted by Lot 454, a China banknote collection with 16 notes ($300-$400), and Lot 457, a Japan banknote collection with 65 notes ($400-$500).

Oakwood Auctions will also offer a collection of rare medals and tokens in this auction. A unique item is Lot 503, a coronation and confederation medals collection ($160-$200).
