STOUFFVILLE, Canada – Oakwood Auctions will hold a stamp auction to kick off the summer. Titled Premium Stamps & Postal History, the two-day sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, beginning at 11 am Eastern time each day. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Many incredible items have been packed into this diverse auction, which boasts more than 900 lots. From scarce Canada, British Commonwealth, USA and Great Britain stamps, to collections and accumulations from around the world, there are many fabulous finds that are expected to bring large crowds to this event.
The Day 1 session, set for June 17, will contain stamps and postal history from Canada and Great Britain, along with a few coins and banknotes. Canada material includes mint Victoria stamps, including a Canada 1897 #50-#65 Mint/MNH, a beautiful complete set of Jubilees estimated at $500-$800.
Also of note is Lot 85, a Canada 1911-1025 #105/#126 MNH/MH/used specialist collection, which has an estimate of $600-$650. There are very high quality Tobacco Revenues as well. The Great Britain selection contains many Victoria items, with quality mint examples such as a Great Britain 1880 #81 2d Pale Rose Imperforate Imprimatur as well as Penny Blacks on covers.
Other offerings that are sure to excite are a Canada 1898 #76A 2c violet block of four MNH, estimated at $200-$300; a Great Britain 1840 #1 1d black (RE) plate 1a on cover addressed to Glasgow, Scotland with an estimate of $1,500-$1,750; and a Great Britain 1877 Five Pound telegraph vertical pair (BD/BE) color trial in gold that carries an estimate of $7,000-$7,500.
The Day 2 session, taking place June 18, will include material from across the world, with a stronger offering of Europe, including Israel 1948 First New Year Cross Gutters perforate stamps, estimated at $400-$500; great British Commonwealth and USA examples, including a USA 1925 #621 5c dark blue and black plate block of eight VF MNH, estimated at $300-$400; and a USA 1869 #118 15c brown and blue Type I used, estimated at $300-$400 and $200-$250, respectively. There are many collections and accumulations throughout, including quality Commonwealth selections and some neat topicals and thematics.
Collectors and dealers will also be thrilled by a USA 1923-1983 #C2/#C108 mint air mail collection; a USA 1852 #9 strip of three on piece; a China Local Post-Chinkiang 1895 #J17g/#J22c postage due in black with inverted overprint, estimated at $280-$300; and a St. Helena 1863-1984 #8/#409 MH/used collection.
