Oakwood plans spectacular stamp sale Oct. 30-Nov. 1

STOUFFVILLE, Ontario – Oakwood Auctions will hold a premium stamp and coin auction on Oct. 30 through – Nov. 1 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Bidders will find many incredible items packed into this diverse auction. With over 1,200 lots from six general categories, this is truly a sale for collectors and deal hunters. From rare Canada, British Commonwealth, USA and Great Britain stamps, to collections and coins from around the world, there are many fabulous finds at extremely low prices that are expected to bring large crowds to this event.

Day 1 will contain a variety of stamps, banknotes, coins and collections from around the world, including a rare Italy 1862 #17 10 Cent Bistre (above), and a Canada 1889 $10 Banknote PCGS 25 estimated at $2,500-$3,000.

Stamp collections from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Romania, France, Germany and States, Switzerland and more are offered. An exciting lot is Lot 92; a USA 1934A $1,000 Banknote PMG 40.

Another lot sure to excite is Lot 190; a rare Hong Kong 1862-1902 stamp collection estimated at $5,000-$6,000, and a Germany 1859 #5 1/3 Groeschen Black Green, with a catalog value of $2,900.

Day Two is sure to attract a large crowd with a rare selection of premium stamps from the British Commonwealth and Great Britain. Collectors of these countries are in for a treat.

There are many British Commonwealth and Great Britain highlights to be noted. One offered will be a Great Britain 1840 #1 1 Penny Black Pl 6 Mint VF, with a Sismondo certificate of authenticity. With a Stanley Gibbons catalog value of 13,500 pounds and estimated at $4,500-$5,500 USD, this will be sure to excite serious collectors. Another featured stamp is Lot 648: Great Britain 1902 #142 1 Pound Blue Green F MLH OG, with bright vibrant color, and is estimated at $1,600-$2,400 USD.

Other head-turning British Commonwealth stamps include rare Queen Victoria King Edward issues, blocks, singles and sets. Highlighted by Lot 490: British Honduras 1888 #23 10 Cent on 4 Pence Violet Block of 12 MNH, this will bring significant attention from British Commonwealth collectors. This block is an absolute F+, which is difficult to obtain for this issue, especially for a block of 12.

The color is very strong and fresh, and the stamp is estimated at $850-$950. A close second is Lot 448: Bermuda 1910-1924 #54 1 Pound Black (below) and Violet Red VF MNH. This stamp is always highly sought after, and this example will be no exception, as it is well centered and has great perforations. With an estimate of $325-$350 this will be sure to excite.

Day 3 will offer premium Canada and USA stamps. There will be many rare and highly sought after American stamps, including Lot 1119: 1893 #244 $4 Crimson Lake MNH (below), estimated at $1,200-$1,400, as well as Lot 1155: 1930 #C15 $2.60 Blue Zeppelin MNH.

Many collectors will be excited by the offering of high-end Canadian stamps, including Lot 763: 1868 12½ Cent Blue VF MNH OG, Lot 954: Newfoundland 1860 # 11A 3 Pence Pair VF OG, as well as Lot 791: 1897 #63 $3 Jubilee Mint F+, estimated at $900-$1,050.
