CINCINNATI – On May 31, Cowan’s Auctions will conduct a Fine and Decorative Art Discovery Auction that features an eclectic variety of fine and decorative art including paintings, prints, Americana, rugs, porcelain, glass, stoneware, sterling and coin silver, books, folk art, Asian art, jewelry and timepieces. There is no in-person bidding for this auction. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
A watercolor on paper by William Sidney Cooper (English, 1854-1927) of a flock of sheep on a hilltop is representative of the original art in the auction. The framed work (above) is dated 1924 and measures 19 by 23 inches.
Lake Onota near Pittsfield, Mass., is the subject of a pair of oil on canvas landscapes by American painter Edwin Whitefield. Both paintings are signed and dated 1885.
Folk art includes a portrait of a pug standing on a Victorian wicker chair and a cat resting on a footstool below. The framed painting measures 28½ x 23¼ in.
A pacing horse weather vane made of sheet metal measures nearly a yard long. Like most of the lots in the auction, its high estimate is less than $500.
The auction will begin Thursday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Eastern.
