HOUSTON – The 650+ lots on offer at Simpson Galleries on Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at 1 p.m. Central time include important traditional and modern paintings; Asian works of art; fine Continental furniture; European porcelain; sculpture; glassware and crystal by Lalique and Baccarat; important Texas and Houston historical maps; sterling silver by Paul Storr and Tiffany & Co.; estate jewelry; and midcentury modern design. The auction features a number of highlighted lots and collections. Leading the offering is a collection of Leroy Neiman artworks and related ephemera from the Estate of Eva Linda Moreno, who was Neiman’s studio assistant and friend for decades.

Property from significant private and corporate collections will be on the block, including important Texas/world maps, documents and Audubon Havell prints. Of note are rare examples of De Cordova’s map of the State of Texas of 1856 and an important Republic of Texas map from 1839.

From private collections, works by artists such as Lee N. Smith, Billy Hassell, Frank Reaugh, Porfirio Salinas, Richard MacDonald, Tsing-Fang Chen, Charles Schorre and Arman (below).

And a newly discovered painting by Julius Stockfleth portrays the Port of Galveston in 1907 – the bustling city as it recovered from the Great Storm of 1900. The painting comes to auction as a donation to a Hawaiian charity that supports underprivileged children with all proceeds benefiting their cause.
