WOODBURY, Conn. – On Tuesday, March 21, Schwenke Auctioneers will hold its Spring Fine Estates Auction, comprising more than 600 lots of estate property. It will feature a choice collection of estate jewelry, Native American jewelry and decorative arts, Asian decorative arts, American, English and Continental decorative arts, folk art and American country and formal furniture, a single-owner collection of more than 100 early baskets, sterling silver, fine art, estate oriental rugs and books. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Estate jewelry and Native American jewelry accounts for more than 40 lots in the sale. Included are a Tiffany & Co. 18K gold and onyx link necklace, estimated at $50-$5,000; an 18K gold dogwood flower pin; a large turquoise and silver bow pin; a group of six 10K gold bangle bracelets; a Hans Hensen MCM sterling pin; a Victorian 14K gold pearl and diamond bangle; an 18K gold and diamond bracelet; a pair of 18K gold, diamond and pearl earrings; and a 14K gold bangle bracelet. Native American jewelry selections include three turquoise necklaces; a vintage sterling and leather concho belt; a sterling and turquoise cuff and three rings; three sterling and turquoise bracelets; and a sterling and turquoise three-lobed necklace.

Porcelain wares include several lots of Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Lace dinnerware, comprising more than 60 pieces. The lots are led by a pair of double arm full lace candleabras, estimated at $50-$5,000, and followed by sets of plates; oval platter and tea service items; a set of cups; and a group of three serving pieces. Several lots of Roseville and other Arts & Crafts pottery, consigned by a Fairfield County collector, will also be presented.

Fine art abounds in the sale; the category contains more than 200 diverse lots. Among the items on offer are a New England landscape oil on board signed G.L. Noyes (George Loftus Noyes, American, 1864-1954) in a Carrig-Rohane gilded plein aire frame. Carrig-Rohane was an early 20th-century American frame shop founded in Massachusetts by the artist/frame makers Hermann Dudley Murphy and Charles Prendergast and later joined by the talented woodcarver Walfred Thulin. The Noyes landscape is estimated at $50-$5,000.

Of special note from a New York City consignor are a large pair of Continental oils on canvas of two archangels – antique near-life size depictions of the archangels St. Raphael and St. Michael, measuring 69 by 49in. Together they are estimated at $50-$5,000.

The selection of Asian art and objects includes a Sino-Tibetan polychrome carved wooden seated Guanyin figure, estimated at $50-$5,000; a Tibetan thangka; and several early Chinese wooden and bronze figures being sold for a Connecticut collector. Those items include a bronze Buddhist ritual ghanta with a lotus handle surmounted by a recumbent caparisoned beast; a Nepalese cast bronze figure of Durgha; a Hindu cast bronze seated Shiva figure; three Chinese carved wood parcel gilt figures of Zhong Kui; and a Chinese carved and gilt seated Bodhisattva.

As is always true of Schwenke auctions, the March 21 sale includes several standout pieces of American furniture. Notable among them are a Vermont Windsor comb back armchair with an estimate of $50-$5,000; a Boston carved rosewood drop leaf sofa table; a set of six Federal classical carved mahogany saber leg side chairs; a set of eight Boston Sheraton dining chairs in the manner of John and Thomas Seymour; and a Baltimore federal carved mahogany game table.
