Paintings power Lotus International Auctions’ spring event May 5

GUILFORD, Conn. – Lotus International Auctions LLC will conduct an online-only auction May 5. The auction, titled “Super Spring Fine Art and Folk Art Auction,” has oil paintings, watercolors, etchings, lithographs, silkscreens, sculptures (modern and Inuit) and many other eye-catching items. There are 336 lots. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be done through LiveAuctioneers.
An Edward Lear watercolor landscape (above) depicting the north of Sudan has a date and time – Feb. 7, 1867, 4:30 p.m. – noted at the bottom. Lear visited Egypt in 1866 and traveled up the Nile as far as Wadi Halfa from December 1866 to March 1867.
Another painting, Authur Sarnoff ‘s Monterey Interlude is an illustration of the cliffs looking out to the Pacific Ocean surrounded by Monterey trees. Sarnoff illustrated for magazines such as Colliers, McCall’s, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, and Redbook.

Pauline Braat has a colorful folk art painting of a scene on the coastline of Yugoslavia, dated 1968, with boating activity and people enjoying the summer day.
For a surrealistic artwork, there is an intriguing painting by Shigeo Okumura with lions, birds, water lilies and a lone woman holding a red rose.
