MT. CRAWFORD, Va. – The Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates Spring Fine & Decorative Arts Auction contains everything from contemporary paperweights and French art glass to antique sewing accoutrements and mid-century Modern material. The sale will take place during four days, from Wednesday, April 20 through Saturday, April 23, and bidding opens at 9 am Eastern standard time on each day. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Wednesday’s session, set for April 20, is exclusively devoted to antique and vintage sewing articles. It features the important sewing collection of Mildred Jarvis of Kennesaw, Georgia, comprising nearly 300 lots of thimbles, chatelaines, needle cases and other accoutrements; plus the sewing clamp collection of Lyle and Dennis Drier of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Thursday’s session, scheduled for April 21, features the third and final installment of the paperweight and studio glass collection of Carl Carter of Austin, Texas. On offer will be 371 total lots of paperweights and a small selection of studio and art glass as well. Carter’s collection contains many examples from the most respected and desired paperweight artists, including David Graeber, Gordon Smith, Ken Rosenfeld, Debbie and Delmo Tarsitano, Cathy and Colin Richardson, Rick and Melissa Ayotte, Richard Loesel and Mike Hunter.

The sale will also include large selections of works by Paul Ysart, as well as an assortment of antique and vintage examples by Saint-Louis. Highlights include a David Graeber (American, b. 1967-) botanical lampwork studio art glass paperweight with fancy-cut embellishment, estimated at $2,000-$3,000; an antique Saint-Louis concentric millefiori art glass paperweight; and a Gordon Smith (American, b. 1959-) snake and snail lampwork studio art glass paperweight.
Friday’s session, taking place on April 22, showcases part one of the Dean and Leann Lindsey collection of Phoenix, Arizona, which consists of American and European art glass; and it includes part three of the collection of Larry Spradley of Beaumont, Texas, which boasts more than 500 glass, ceramic, and metal miniature lamps and fairy lamps of all types. The day’s offerings will also include a large selection of 18th- and 19th-century ceramics, as well as American and European silver. Highlights include a Lalique Archers art glass vase, colorless with a blue patina, estimated at $3,000-$5,000; a bisque figural skeleton miniature lamp, estimated at $1,000-$2,000; and a Francois-Emile Decorchemont (French, 1880-1971) pate-de-verre art glass footed bowl in a richly mottled deep blue color.
Saturday’s session, planned for April 23, features, among many others, material from the Bill and Nancy Wick collection of Port Royal, Virginia and property deaccessioned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, with proceeds to benefit the Collections Acquisition Fund. Highlights include a portrait of a gentleman attributed to Michael Dahl (Swedish-British, 1659-1743), estimated at $1,000-$2,000, the sitter identified as Philip Byerley (d. 1674) of Goldsborough Hall, a large estate in North Yorkshire; and a fresh-to-the-market Will Henry Stevens (American, 1881-1979) pastel New Orleans waterfront scene, estimated at $3,000-$5,000.
