MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Five Vladimir Kagan furnishings that once decorated a dwelling in the legendary Dakota apartment building in New York City and a Pablo Picasso vase for Madoura will appear in a two-session auction on Saturday, October 15, held by EstateOfMind. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The five pieces signed and designed by Kagan (1927-2016), the renowned German-born American furniture designer, include three circa-1940 sectional free-standing fabric and Lucite sofas, one an Omnibus.

The other two Kagan pieces consist of a glass, chrome and steel coffee table dating to circa 1969-70 and a circa-1960-1970 wood and Lucite zebra floor lamp. These will be offered in Session 2, which will begin at 11 am Eastern time on October 15.

Session 1, which starts at 10 am Eastern time on the same day, features estate firearms, ammunition and militaria – about 90 lots in all. The lineup will include a Browning Arms over and under 28 gauge shotgun Ultra XS model; a Lee Enfield Mark III .303 British rifle, ser. #M28159 (this is described as an “Irish” Lee Enfield); a 19th-century Japanese Wakizashi unsigned sword; a circa-1861 Civil War colonel’s infantry color patch insignia; and a Savage/Anschutz .22 caliber target rifle with a Simmons 6.5 – 20x scope.

Returning to the Session 2 lineup, which contains almost 600 lots, a standout is a Pablo Picasso vase or pitcher executed circa 1955 for Madoura Pottery. It stands slightly taller than 12in, is described as being in excellent condition, and has an estimate of $50-$1,000.

Also of note is a circa-1950 painting signed by the Old Lyme Association artist Gershon Camassar (American, 1908-1995), titled Gallagher’s Farm and estimated at $50-$1,000. It is one of five paintings by Camassar offered in the auction.

Also of interest is an archive of material pertaining to the artist Holmes Smith (American, 1863-1943), who was a professor of art at Washington University in St. Louis and was known for his landscapes and marine paintings. The archive, which will be presented in multiple lots, includes personal diaries, photographs, numerous watercolors, sketches and sketch pads. The Holmes Smith watercolors include circa-1900 landscape and river studies, some bearing his signature or estate stamp.

Other artworks in the October 13 auction include a 1950 oil on Masonite signed by Eric Sloane (American, 1905-1985) and titled Rainy Day/Sunshine. Sloane was a noted landscape painter, illustrator and author of books on the cultural history and folklore of America.

Session 2 will finish with a 50-year collection of H. O. and regular slot cars, sets and accessories, offered as multiple lots; as well as Hot Wheels (Red Line) and Match Box cars and equipment dating to circa 1960-1970. Comic books will be represented with examples from the Golden Age to the Bronze Age, many in gradable condition.
