A few representational items from the 500-lot auction include an 1892 Abraham Lincoln Indian Peace Medal (above) by Salathiel Ellis and Joseph Willson; a rare Currier & Ives “Working Man’s” jugate banner for Ulysses S. Grant and Henry Wilson; scarce campaign textiles including portrait flags depicting Grover Cleveland, Ulysses S. Grant, James G. Blaine, Benjamin Harrison; photographs signed by presidents William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon; admittance tickets for various party conventions, inaugurations and coveted specimens from Andrew Johnson’s 1868 Impeachment. Among multiple handbills and broadsides are posters are a bold 1920 James Cox and Franklin D. Roosevelt poster and many large 1960 John F. Kennedy variations. This important auction provides a complete and unbroken century-long timeline representing every U.S. presidential campaign from Abraham Lincoln through John F. Kennedy.
Complementing this vast offering is a small selection of earlier specimens featuring a 1789 George Washington Twigg medal, an 1845 James K. Polk inauguration medal, an 1856 John C. Fremont textile banner, and many more with the inclusion of statesmen Thomas Jefferson and Henry Clay.
