Pop art takes the spotlight in Universal Live’s July 15 auction
The auction features many signed items by top-caliber artists including Christo, Edwards, Cutrone, O’Keeffe and Le Corbusier. Additionally, the sale includes works by Warhol, Miro, Lichtenstein, Jim Dine, Butero, Fontana and many others.
Universal Live’s auctioneer, Martin Shape, believes pop art is seeing a revival.
“This generation is collecting the posters and art that was popular in the 1960s and ’70s. It has a broad-based appeal that spans several generations,” Shape said. “In our sales we have many bidders from France, Spain, Germany and other European countries. I am sure that the current rate of exchange, which favors the euro against the weaker U.S. dollar, has much to do with the amount of bidding from overseas.”
Universal Live makes every effort to ensure the artworks in its sales are accessible to as many bidders as possible.
“More than 200 lots in this auction have a starting bid of $50 to $100,” Shape said. “It will be an excellent opportunity for bidders to enter the competition and vie for some great pop art.”
