NEW YORK – Jasper52 will present an online auction of premier Asian antiques on Tuesday, Oct. 2. This finely curated sale brings together ancient Chinese pottery, impressive bronze Buddhas and much more, creating a comprehensive representation of the Asian tradition. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Heading the collection of 93 lots is a rare iron helmet from China’s Meiji period (1868-1912). The helmet (above) is covered with black lacquer and inlaid with mother of pearl. A “mon,” a family crest, is displayed on the front of the helmet, which is about 15 inches in diameter and in very good condition overall.

Fifteen lots feature the likeness of Buddha, one of which is a heavy cast 12-inch-tall figure. This Buddha’s hands are in the bhumisparsha mudra position and has a serene facial expression (below).

A pottery horse and soldier in the typical style of the Northern Qi Dynasty (A.D. 550-577) has undergone a thermoluminescence test and is in good condition. This fine piece measures 13.8 inches high.

A Mahakala mask from Tibet dates to the 19th century. The mask, which measures 11.8 inches by 9.2 inches, retains its original polychrome finish. It comes from a Dutch private collection.

Two Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-906) pottery warriors – actually fragments of large statues – stand out for their workmanship, strong facial features and details in the clothing. All the pigments on the 14-inch figures are original.

A 19th-century Indian miniature painting, gouache on paper, depicts the Hall of Audience in the Fort of Delhi. The artist-signed painting, 3 by 5 inches, is taped into a mat that measures 8.8 by 12.8 inches.
