Rago drafts all-star lineup for 20th century design auction June 4-5

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Rago Arts and Auction Center will conduct a four-session auction of early 20th century and modern design on June 4-5.

Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

The Early 20th Cecntury Design session consisting of 356 lots will be Saturday, June 4, beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern. Featured are rare and early Despondency (below) and Lorelei vases by Artus Van Briggle.

“Our June sale includes an extraordinary selection of American and European early 20th century decorative ceramics from five different private collections. This is by far one of our best ceramics sales in years,” said David Rago, partner and co-director of the 20th-21st Century Design Department.

More than 270 lots of mid-priced 20th century furniture, lighting and decorative objects will sell Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Modern Design session consisting of 227 lots will sell Sunday, June 5, beginning at 11 a.m. Included will be furniture by the likes of Paul Evans and Carlo Mollino, lighting by Wendell Castle and Verner Panton, and wall hangings by Alexander Calder.

What is billed as the the largest and broadest collection of fine contemporary glass that Rago’s has ever offered will be sold Sunday, June 5, beginning at 2 p.m. The nearly 300 lots will include a group of works by by Yoichi Ohira and many gorgeous creations by Dale Chihuly including a chandelier (below).
