Rago salutes 20th century design with multisession auction May 20-21

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Rago Arts and Auction Center will conduct auctions of early 20th century and modern design on Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

The weekend auction will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. Eastern with the sale of the Solana Collection of Lalique glass, more than 100 lots including many rare pieces in a rainbow of colors.

Next up Saturday at noon is the early 20th century design. The 156-lot session includes ceramics and pottery, Art Nouveau furniture, French art glass, and exceptional lighting, including a rare Elizabeth Burton table lamp of hammered copper and abalone shell (below).

Saturday’s auction concludes with a session titled Mid Mod, more than 250 lots of mid-priced 20th century furniture, lighting and decorative arts.

The auction will resume Sunday at 11 a.m. with Modern Design, which will feature spectacular works by Paul Evans, including a Sculpture Front cabinet from his family’s collection. The session consists of 272 lots.

Modern Ceramics and Glass wraps up the auction with a nearly 200-lot session beginning at 2:30 p.m. Highlights include Dinosaur (below) and Piccadilly vessels by Lino Tagliapietra, eight works by Yoichi Ohira and a chandelier by Dale Chihuly.

Additional designers represented in the auction include George Nakashima, Hans Wegner, Carlo Bugatti, Fulvio Bianconi, Carlo Scarpa, Ernest Batchelder and Adelaide Robineau.
