Rare mid-century lighting featured in Nova Ars sale March 27

ASTI, Italy – Two mid-century modern lighting fixtures are attracting attention to Nova Ars online auction to be conducted on Tuesday, March 27. The sale represents an interesting design collection of decorative arts of the 20th century, much of it designed and made in Italy. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

The earlier fixture is a ceiling lamp designed by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, circa 1940 (above). It is fabricated of brass and nickel-plated brass with domical crystal shade. It is estimated at €3,000–€3,200 ($3,680–$3,925).

 The second fixture is a hanging lamp by Ico Parisi for Terraneo, circa 1960 (below). This rare fixture is made of methacrylate and varnished metal. It is estimated at €3,000–€3,500 ($3,680–$4,290).

Another interesting lighting fixture is a brightening sculpture designed by Nanda Vigo. This contemporary sconce features mirrored crystal and opaline glass and comes with a certificate of authenticity (est. €1,800–€2,000).

Conservative restoration is noted on a pair of bookcases designed by Franco Albini for Poggi, circa 1950. The LB7 bookcases are constructed of ash and walnut and have shelves and cases with doors and flaps. The bookcases also feature adjustable legs (est. €13,000–€15.000).

A set of eight side chairs by Carlo Scarpa for Bernini, circa 1970, has an estimate of €2,200–€2,500. The restored Kentucky model chairs are constructed of walnut and have their original leather seats and backs.
