NEW YORK – Nearly 600 lots of posters, prints and rare books have been assembled for Rare Posters’ annual holiday auction to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 16. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide the Internet live bidding for the sale, which will commence at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.

The selection to be offered represents the most comprehensive array of art the company has ever brought to auction. There are works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Wesselmann, Hockney and Keith Haring, among many others.

Highlights include Lichtenstein’s Blue Lily Pad Sculpture, Warhol’s Grapes (FS190), Tom Wesselmann’s Judy on the Blue Blanket, several prints by Helen Frankenthaler and a rare portfolio cover by Keith Haring. Rare Posters will also present the latest series of original acrylics by Dwight Baird, including his work at the Montreal Grand Prix.

For this special auction – and because of the volume of lots included – the event will be separated into two immediately consecutive parts, with no interruption.

The first part consists of over 200 lots of selected posters being offered in individual, and assorted packs that are grouped by subject and/or artist. The single-title packs of a 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 quantity start at extremely appealing prices. Choices include collectible posters from the Leo Castelli Gallery (including works created by Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein, Dine, and Oldenburg), the Pace Prints collection (including works by Robert Indiana and James Rosenquist) and posters from the Hokin Gallery (with images by Picasso, Lloyd Nesbitt, Trova, Alex Katz and Larry Zox). Other packs include posters by Romare Bearden, Botero, Chagall, Louise Nevelson, Miro, Razzia and Saul Steinberg. All of the lots consist of posters that are out of print.

The assorted packs of posters are grouped by hand-picked selections of individual artists’ work, such as Damian Hirst, Gerhardt Richter, Christo, Lichtenstein and Warhol. They are also defined by subject, e.g., a group of Warhol ads posters, Lichtenstein Girls, Christo’s Arkansas River Project and Miami Wrapped Islands Project, etc. The Warhol ‘Ads’ and ‘Portrait’ groups are among those examples in the auction that are unlikely ever to be reprinted again.

Rare Posters will also be offering carefully chosen assorted packs of reference books by Miro, Botero and Picasso, and reviews from the XXieme siècle editions, some of which include rare stone lithographs.

The auction will also feature the works of Chagall, Picasso, Le Corbusier, and other well-known 20th century artists that were published by Mourlot in Paris. These works will be offered both in groups during the first part of the auction and individually in the second part of the auction.

Additional themes represented in assorted packs are collectible posters from Willi’s Wine Bar in Paris, the Roland Garros tennis tournament posters, posters for Christo’s Wrapped Miami and the upcoming wrapping of the Arkansas River project, restrikes of the Monaco Grand Prix vintage races dating from 1930 to the mid 1980s, and original posters of the 1982 Spain World Cup.

Additional artists include Vija Celmins, Crash, Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Le Corbusier, Peter Max, Robert Motherwell, Robert Longo, James Rosenquist and Tadanori Yokoo.
