Renovations at Showplace nearly complete for Sept. 27 sale

NEW YORK – Renovations are nearing competition at Showplace, New York’s premiere luxury estate auction house. The renovations at Showplace include a state-of-the-art auction gallery, a new sun-drenched lobby and new signage to retail galleries on the upper floors. The fall series of auctions features fine art, decorative arts, important pieces of Asian porcelain, mid-century design and luxury items from New York Metropolitan Area estates including collections from the Pierre Hotel and the estate of producer Martin Bregman (Scarface, Sea of Love, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Carlito’s Way, The Adventures of Pluto Nash). “We believe the renovations at Showplace will bring a jolt of energy to the neighborhood. Our auctions showcase objects that will appeal to discerning buyers. The Sept. 27 sale will feature many important pieces of Asian porcelain and decorative arts including a rare Chinese Kangxi period porcelain blue & white vase (Lot 50), a Chinese Kangxi period yaolingzun porcelain vase (Lot 51), a Kangxi period large Chinese yellow-glazed bowl (Lot 49), an 18th century Thai gilt bronze standing Buddha sculpture (Lot 97), a 12th century Rajasthani Indian schist archway fragment (Lot 100) and a 12th century Rajasthani Indian schist column fragment (Lot 99).

The sale will feature fine art including a photo etching by Robert Rauschenberg titled Razorback Bunch (Lot 13) and three flower ink on paper prints by Donald Baechler (Lots 14, 15 and 16) along with a collection of Asian contemporary paintings. An ink on rice paper by Chinese artist Shen Fen (Lot 69), a large oil by Di Li Feng (Lot 70), a large acrylic titled Turnover In Water by Wang Chengyun (Lot 71), an ink on paper titled Mountain W Bicycle by Hô Su-Yông (Lot 162), a large oil on canvas titled Woman Walking by Liang Hongli (Lot 72), a large oil on canvas titled Woman on a Street (Lot 73) and a large oil on canvas titled Neon Crowd by Wu Jih-Chin (Lot 160) round out the collection.

Also included is a collection of luxury accessories including an Hermès 35cm leather Birkin bag (Lot 67) and vintage Louis Vuitton luggage (Lots 9, 10, 11, 65, 66).

The sale will also spotlight Brazilian mid-century modern furniture and design including a pair of Jorge Zalszupin for L’Atelier Jacaranda tables (Lot 21), a Jorge Zalszupin for L’Atelier Jacaranda low table (Lot 24), a pair of Sergio Rodrigues Brazilian “Mocho” stools (Lot 23) and a Giuseppe Scapinelli Brazilian caviuna wood console (Lot 22). Additional mid-century modern offerings include a set of 10 Breuer for Thonet B 64 cantilevered chairs (Lot 214).
